Need prayer? Tap my shoulder: Boldly Rooted faith that shows up

As I source designs to expand the Faith & Fashion line, one thing stays non-negotiable: the message has to impact my spirit and be biblically based. It has to point people back to God and style, with 100% ministry.

That’s exactly why this new t-shirt says:

“dear person behind me. Need prayer? Tap my shoulder:” Because faith isn’t just something we wear to church. Faith shows up for people—out loud and in real life. If you love behind-the-design stories rooted in purpose, explore the Faith & Fashion Blog.

And as we continue our 2026 theme—Boldly Rooted—this design carries one of the clearest assignments God can give a believer:

Be Available (Bold + communal) Not perfect. Not polished. Available.

The Shift: From “I’m Too Far Gone” to “Use Me, Lord”

Prayer has not come easy to me. For a long time, I was the Christian who believed I was too far gone. I felt like I shouldn’t be asking God for anything because what He’d done thus far was already beyond what I deserved. But when I started opening up to my spiritual mentors—women ministers in my church—it really hit me:

Prayer is how we open conversation with God.

God removed everything between us. Because of Jesus, we can go directly to Him (Hebrews 4:16). Even though our works are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6), He still wants a personal relationship with us.

And when that relationship gets real, something changes:

You stop hiding from God… and you start asking God to use you.

Need prayer? Tap my shoulder: Why this tee is a ministry assignment

This design is simple, but it’s bold.

It tells the person behind you: You’re not alone.

It tells the anxious person: Someone sees you.

It tells the hurting person: God still answers prayers.

And it tells you, the wearer: Stay ready.

Because the call to action isn’t just “buy the shirt.”

The call to action is: allow God to use you to show up for others. If you are ready to wear your faith with intention, shop the Faith & Fashion Line here.

Bold Faith Looks Like Availability (not perfect—available)

Can you imagine receiving that tap on the shoulder from someone who’s desperate for prayer?

Not a “churchy” moment. A real moment.

A grocery store moment.

A hallway moment.

A parking lot moment.

Are you willing?

Not willing because you have the perfect words.

Willing because you know the One who does.

The Lord’s Prayer: Not Just Words—A Template

One thing I learned (especially through community and the Monthly Young Adult Meetup) is that God doesn’t need “traditional” prayers that sound good but don’t come from the heart.

God gave us a guide. A pattern. A template.

Jesus said, “In this manner, therefore, pray…” (Matthew 6:9–13).

That means the Lord’s Prayer isn’t only something to recite—it’s a framework for relationship.

How the Lord’s Prayer teaches us to pray

  • Start with worship: “Our Father… hallowed be Your name.”

  • Submit your plans: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done…”

  • Ask for what you need: “Give us this day our daily bread…”

  • Get your heart right: “Forgive us… as we forgive…”

  • Ask for guidance and protection: “Lead us not into temptation…”

This is how we grow in prayer: not by performing, but by approaching God like a Father.

Growing to Model Christ Jesus

The deeper our relationship with God becomes, the more our lives should reflect Jesus. Not just in what we say—but in how we love, how we serve, how we respond, and how we show up.This is sanctification in real time. And prayer is one of the main ways God shapes us.

Fasting: The Tool That Helps Us Hear God

Fasting changed my perspective. Fasting is one of the tools God uses to help us hear Him more clearly—because it quiets the flesh. When we starve our flesh, we start realizing what we’ve been feeding on. And if we’re honest, sometimes we’ve been feeding anxiety, distraction, and comfort more than we’ve been feeding our spirit.

Fasting reorders that. It makes us hungry—and that hunger should leave us looking for God to feed us. That’s what Jesus modeled in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1–11). He was tempted in His weakness, but He responded with the Word. He showed us that spiritual strength doesn’t come from bread alone.

Fasting isn’t punishment. It’s alignment.

Reflection
  • If someone tapped your shoulder today and asked for prayer, would you freeze—or would you respond?

  • What’s one fear that keeps you from praying out loud for others?

  • Are you using the Lord’s Prayer as a template, or are you avoiding prayer because you “don’t know what to say?”

  • What would change in your life if you fasted with the intention to hear God more clearly?

A Prayer for Boldness and Availability

Father,

Thank You for removing everything that stood between us. Thank You that because of Jesus, I can come directly to You—honest, imperfect, and still loved.

Make me bold and make me available.

Teach me to pray from my heart, not from performance. Help me to grow in relationship with You so deeply that Your Spirit in me can lead, guide, and even pray through me.

Give me courage to pray out loud and in real life. And when someone taps my shoulder, let me respond with compassion, wisdom, and faith.

As I fast and seek You, quiet my flesh and sharpen my spirit. Feed me with Your Word the way You strengthened Jesus in the wilderness.

Use me to show up for others.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

FAQ

Q1: What does “Need prayer? Tap my shoulder” mean?

A: “Need prayer? Tap my shoulder” is an invitation for someone nearby to ask for prayer in real life. It’s a reminder that faith shows up publicly—with compassion, courage, and availability.

Q2: What if I don’t know what to say when someone asks for prayer?

A: You can keep it simple: ask what they need, pray one or two sentences, and speak God’s peace over them. God honors a sincere heart more than perfect wording.

Q3: Why is the Lord’s Prayer a good template for prayer?

A: In Matthew 6:9–13 (NKJV), Jesus gives a pattern—worship first, surrender to God’s will, daily needs, forgiveness, and protection. It helps you pray with structure when you feel stuck.

Q4: How does fasting connect to hearing God more clearly?

A: Fasting quiets distractions and strengthens spiritual focus. In Matthew 4:1–11 (NKJV), Jesus models dependence on God’s Word, not comfort.

Q5: How can I practice being “available” this week?

A: Pray the Lord’s Prayer slowly, rewrite it in your own words, and ask God for one opportunity to encourage or pray for someone—at work, in a store, or in your community.

Q6: Is it okay to pray for someone outside of church?

A: Yes. Some of the most powerful prayer moments happen in everyday places—hallways, parking lots, grocery stores—because God is present everywhere.
